Chapped lips are really just an over drying of the skin of your lip and the reason it gets over dried is from cold air, low humidity, sunlight or even just strong winds. The reason that the lips get over dried much more easily than regular skin on your body is because the skin of your lip is very thin. One of the most important things to remember: if you have chapped lips, do not lick them! This will just dry out your lips more. Instead, restore the barrier that holds in moisture so your chapped lips can heal. I suggest using products that are oil based. Many lip balms and lip acids have petrolatum or bee’s wax which is heavy and holds moisture in. Bottom line: Keep your lips hydrated!
