Do you have a skin care regimen recommendation?

Hi Sandee, thanks for your question. I recommend visiting https://www.beautyrx.com/pages/your-rx and taking our quiz to learn more about the regimen I would recommend based on your answers. Understanding your skin type will help you find the best products for gorgeous glowing skin. When I see a patient with oily skin, I always recommend that they find a cleanser that helps reduce oil like BeautyRx’s Balancing Cleanser, then following with a toner to complete the cleansing process. I also recommend that my patients exfoliate nightly with a product like our Essential 8% Exfoliating Serum, and moisturizing with a light and oil-free moisturizer that won’t cause breakouts like our Light Rehydrating Lotion. The Dermstick for Pores could be a great way to reduce large pores on the nose area. Of course, everyone (no matter what skin type) should use sunscreen daily to prevent future skin damage!

Why doesn’t BeautyRx have retinol products?

Hi Peevee, thanks for your question. Years ago, I used to recommend retinol products to my patients. As technology has improved, I now recommend glycolic-based products like those in my collection– BeautyRx by Dr. Schultz. The reason I made the switch is because retinol can often be very harsh and irritating to the skin. Glycolic is much more gentle, but still effective. I’ve formulated my glycolic exfoliants to remove the dead skin cells sitting on the skin’s surface, but without causing redness, downtime or irritation.

What is the best way to exfoliate?

Hi Anna, thanks for your question. I always tell my patients that glycolic exfoliation is key, and I prefer the consistency and safety of chemical exfoliation versus physical, and that you should find one that in gentle enough to use every day, so there is never any irritation, but also potent so you can see results. I  tell my patients to exfoliate every evening with BeautyRx’s Progressive Peel, which is a system that contains our Essential 8% Exfoliating Serum and 10% pads. Once per month, I recommend my patients get a professional peel with me at my office or at one of our Peel Bar locations for an extra boost!

I have redness and dryness on face how do i get it removed?

Hi Rucha, first, I recommend seeing a dermatologist to get a better understanding for the cause of your redness and dryness. Many people develop dry skin during the winter months, when their skin is exposed to the elements. Dryness is exacerbated by wind and extremely low temperatures and low humidity. Exposure to sun also has a drying effect. Dry skin can be a telltale sign of a variety of conditions, so it’s important to see a professional to get it checked out.

Should we apply toner and serum before sunscreen or after sunscreen. I understand moisturiser is after sunscreen. Thank you.

Hi Amanda, thanks for asking a great question. Here’s the order I recommend to my patients for the morning and evening.

AM Routine:

  1. Cleanser (like BeautyRx’s Refreshing Cleanser)
  2. Toner (like our Clarifying Toner)
  3. Sunscreen (like Solar Defense Sheer Sunscreen SPF 50)
  4. Moisturizer (like Soothing Moisture Cream)

PM Routine:

  1. Cleanser
  2. Toner
  3. Exfoliant (like Essential 8% Exfoliating Serum)
  4. Antioxidant (like Triple Vitamin C Serum)
  5. Moisturizer

What is the best SPF to use?

Great question! Sunscreens display their SPF (sun protection factor) on the product label. The SPF indicates the amount of UVB light that will pass through the product when applied in a thin layer of standard thickness.A sunscreen with an SPF of 15 will allow one-fifteenth of the UVB light striking it to pass through on the skin. I always recommend that my patients use an SPF of at least 15, and that the product provides broad-spectrum protection against the damaging UVA rays (SPF only protects against UVB. But the most important thing: Wear sunscreen every day, and wear the one you like, because you’ll be more likely to use it!

Do i need to use sunscreen and moisturizer both or just one of the two?

Hi Kati, thanks for your question. I always recommend that my patients use a sunscreen 365 days a year to protect their skin from damage. Most sunscreens are moisturizers with added sunscreen ingredients, so in that case, you only need your moisturizer with added SPF. If your skin type needs extra moisture, I recommend using one on top of your sunscreen. Yes, you can apply makeup on top of both.

If you’re looking for exfoliation, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen, this is the routine I recommend to my patients for both morning and night:

AM Routine:

  1. Cleanser (like BeautyRx’s Refreshing Cleanser)
  2. Toner (like our Clarifying Toner)
  3. Sunscreen (like Solar Defense Sheer Sunscreen SPF 50)
  4. Moisturizer (like Soothing Moisture Cream)

PM Routine:

  1. Cleanser
  2. Toner
  3. Exfoliant (like Essential 8% Exfoliating Serum)
  4. Antioxidant (like Triple Vitamin C Serum)
  5. Moisturizer

Morning regimen

Hi there! I recommend finding a routine that works for your skin type. This link can help you do so: https://www.beautyrx.com/pages/your-rx

Generally, I suggest that all my patients use a cleanser, toner, sunscreen and moisturizer. Don’t forget to use your sunscreen before  your moisturizer, or use a moisturizer with sunscreen in it. Keep things simple in the AM as to not interfere with your sunscreen– that;s the most important thing!
