Ask Dr. Schultz
Are moisturizers and wrinkle cream one in the same?
I am a bit confused: Are moisturizers and wrinkle cream one in the same? If my skin is oily/not dry and I don’t feel the need to use a moisturizer every day, at my age, should I be using some type of wrinkle cream every day? Thank you Dr. Schultz
Sorry for the confusion. You only need to use a moisturizer for the purpose of relieving dry skin if you have dry skin. Most people with oily skin don’t have dry skin. But moisturizers and other skincare creams (including glycolics and peptide containing creams) can improve fine lines and wrinkles, completely separate and apart from your oil/water skin balance situation (which determines if you have dry, oily, combination or normal skin).
So to help fine lines and wrinkles, one of the choices is a moisturizer! But if you choose that, because of your oily skin, make sure it is labeled water-based or oil-free or non-comedogenic so it won’t adversely affect the oily skin you have
